US election campaign - Trump: I was hit by a bullet in the ear

Former US President Donald Trump claimed that he was shot in the ear during a campaign rally in the state of Pennsylvania, according to his post on the Truth Social platform.

"I was hit by a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear," wrote the Republican presidential candidate Trump.

"I immediately knew something was wrong because I heard a hissing noise, gunshots, and felt the bullet pierce through the skin," Trump continued. "It was bleeding heavily, and I soon realized what had happened."

Video recordings of the event in the city of Butler captured gunshots. Trump put his hand to his ear and then ducked away. Security personnel rushed onto the stage and shielded him. With Secret Service agents supporting him, he then left the stage. He raised his fist in the air. It looked as if Trump had blood on his ear. The Republican had just begun his speech in Butler when the incident occurred.

According to District Attorney Richard Goldinger of Butler County in Pennsylvania, a spectator was killed, and another was severely injured. He provided no further details about the victims.

Goldinger could not provide information on how many people were present at the event. He did mention "chaos." It had been difficult to ensure the safety of the crowd. The alleged shooter was also killed.

Trump expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and injured attendees. "It's unbelievable that such an act can occur in our country," he lamented. No information was available about the shooter who was killed. The Republican concluded his post with the words: "God bless America."
