Trump designates Robert F. Kennedy as his "unofficial" advisor or confidant
With a potential victory in sight, Donald Trump is proactively gathering a group to facilitate the transition of power and identify potential candidates for key positions. Amongst this team are Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a previous adversary in the Republican presidential race, and former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard. Based on reports from "The New York Times", Trump intends to appoint both individuals as honorary members of his "transition team". This news surfaces just a few days after both Kennedy and Gabbard declared their support for Trump's campaign.
During a conversation with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Kennedy confirmed his inclusion in the team, explaining that he would assist in selecting individuals who will lead the government. Joining Kennedy and Gabbard in this committee are Vice J.D. Vance and Trump's sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump.
Despite a significant portion of their public lives being spent as progressive Democrats, Trump has previously labeled Kennedy as a "radical left lunatic" and someone "more liberal than any other Democrat". Amidst rumors that Kennedy supported abortion rights and far-left environmentalists to undermine his appeal to Trump supporters, he ended up running as an independent candidate.
In recent weeks, Gabbard, a former congresswoman who left the Democratic Party following her unsuccessful 2020 presidential bid, has been working informally to prepare for Trump's campaign events. On Monday, she reaffirmed her commitment to assisting Trump in his bid to regain the White House. Gabbard had to defend herself against allegations that her candidacy was backed by Russia with the intent to weaken the Democrats. Trump consistently defended her against these charges.
Kennedy, who now identifies as independent, made a public appearance at a Trump campaign event in Glendale, standing side by side with the Republican candidate. His appearance was met with enthusiasm, culminating in fireworks and the performance of the Foo Fighters song "My Hero". On stage, a visibly uneasy Kennedy expressed his desire to work with a future President Trump on eliminating harmful chemicals from our food. Trump promised that together, they would battle against "the corrupt political establishment" and "reclaim control of this country for the people".
Despite their past political disparities, Donald Trump has decided to include Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard, both former adversaries, as honorary members of his transition team. Kennedy, now an independent, has confirmed his role in selecting government leaders, signifying a potential shift in political dynamics.
