- Trump characterizes J.D. Vance and himself as "completely ordinary individuals."
Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump is stumping in the contentious state of Pennsylvania before the Democratic Party's gathering. At a gathering in a manufacturing firm in York, the 78-year-old rebuffed the Democrats' assertion that he's "out there." "I believe we're genuinely ordinary people," Trump stated about himself and his running mate, J.D. Vance.
Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Ryan tagged former President Trump as "out there," which is roughly equivalent to "quirky" or "abnormal." Ryan brought up the term in an interview, and it has since been adopted by notable figures within the party. In response to Ryan, Trump remarked, "He's out there." Trump also ridiculed the laughter of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, who will go head-to-head against Trump in the November 5 election.
Trump: Washington to be the globe's most stunning capital
If re-elected, Trump vowed to make the U.S. capital Washington the "most stunning capital in the world." He described Washington as "awful, with graffiti everywhere" and pledged to "rectify the situation extremely quickly" and make it safe. Once famed as the "murder capital" of the U.S. due to its high crime rate, Washington has witnessed an uptick in murders after a decline in the 1990s.
Trump talks about Germany's energy policy
During his speech, which touched on energy policy, Trump mentioned Germany. He contended that Vice President Harris is embarking on a "regulatory crusade" to switch off power plants in the U.S. "Germany tried this a few years ago and lost their political leaders swiftly," Trump said, probably referring to Germany's nuclear phase-out. "And now they're probably building 50 or 60 power plants, and they want to build more, but they got rid of everything and aimed to switch to wind and solar and many other things. Sadly, it didn't work." Trump claimed that Germany is now relying on fossil fuels again. "I hope it's clean fossil fuels, clean coal," he added. Germany targets climate neutrality by 2045 and is phasing out fossil fuels. The share of renewable energies has been gradually rising in recent years.
Counter-event to the Democrats
The Democratic National Convention begins Monday evening in Chicago (Tuesday morning in Germany), with President Joe Biden delivering a speech. Other party figures like former President Barack Obama will speak in the coming days. Harris will deliver the closing speech on Friday (Saturday in Germany). She is expected to take center stage in the coming days.
Trump is countering this with a tour of politically hotly contested swing states. He has lined up events in Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada. In Arizona, he plans to visit the U.S.-Mexico border. Swing states are pivotal for the election outcome, as their voters are not consistently loyal to one party.
In response to Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Ryan's characterization of him as "out there," Donald Trump continued his US election campaign in Pennsylvania, stating that he and his running mate are "ordinary people." In his efforts to win the November 8 election, Trump is also countering the Democratic National Convention by hosting events in swing states.
