Trump: Cannot allow the evil to prevail

A few hours after the failed assassination attempt, Trump speaks out on the internet. The former President expresses gratitude and calls for unity in the USA. We should not allow "Evil to prevail".

Following an assassination attempt against him, the former US President Donald Trump called for unity among Americans. Simultaneously, Trump assured that he would remain steadfast "in the face of Evil." The 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate thanked the public for their support after the shooting during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. "God alone" prevented the unthinkable, Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform. A shot had previously injured him in the ear.

"Our thoughts are with the other victims and their families," Trump wrote. "We pray for the recovery of the wounded and keep in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was killed in such a heinous way." During the attack, a bystander was shot dead, and two others were injured. Security guards killed the 20-year-old gunman.

Now it is more important than ever, "that we are united and show our true character as Americans, remaining strong and resolute, and not allowing Evil to prevail," Trump wrote. He looked forward to speaking in Wisconsin "to our great nation" this week. The Republicans will gather in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, starting Monday, to officially nominate the 78-year-old as their presidential candidate.

"Everyone needs to tone down the rhetoric"

Meanwhile, Republican House of Representatives Chairman Mike Johnson expressed relief over the failed assassination attempt on Trump. "We've all seen what a miracle that looks like," Johnson said on NBC. The bullet apparently was only "an inch" away from causing "real, permanent damage" or even killing Trump. But Trump had seemingly inexhaustible energy and would continue to fight, Johnson said.

Johnson stated that he had already spoken with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The Congress would conduct a comprehensive investigation, including security measures, he announced. One question was whether drones had been in the area that could have detected the gunman on the roof near Trump's campaign event. There are currently more questions than answers, Johnson emphasized.

The political rhetoric in the campaign should be toned down in light of the incident, Johnson opined. No politician in recent history has been reviled and pursued as much as Trump, he added. "Everyone needs to tone down the rhetoric," Johnson demanded.

Despite the failed assassination attempt, Donald Trump called for a unified response from Americans, stating, "Now it is more important than ever, that we are united and show our true character as Americans, remaining strong and resolute, and not allowing Evil to prevail." Furthermore, in the wake of the incident, Republican House of Representatives Chairman Mike Johnson advocated for a toning down of political rhetoric, urging, "Everyone needs to tone down the rhetoric."
