One week after the attack on him, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump gave his first classic campaign speech.

Race to the White House - Trump backs in campaign after attack - Biden in distress

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held his first rally after the attack on him, using the opportunity to criticize his stumbling rival Joe Biden. Trump appeared alongside his new vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance in Grand Rapids, Michigan, exactly one week after a shooter opened fire at a similar event in the state of Pennsylvania and lightly wounded Trump. Trump was as belligerent as ever and mocked Biden's problems, who is facing a rebellion within his own party.

A week prior, a shooter opened fire at a campaign event in the city of Butler in the state of Pennsylvania and shot at Trump. The assailant was killed by security guards. One attendee died, and two others were injured. Trump was hit in the right ear. The incident was an escalation in the already heated US presidential campaign.

Details about Trump's injuries were made public

For the first time, Trump's team released details about his head injury. The bullet missed Trump's head by less than an inch, according to Trump's doctor Ronny Jackson in a written statement. The bullet hit the upper part of Trump's right ear and caused an approximately two centimeter wide wound. The wound was healing properly. Trump was doing well and recovering as expected from the attack. Jackson also noted, "It's a miracle he wasn't killed."

At Grand Rapids, Trump spoke before jubilant supporters about the attack again, "I stand before you only by the grace of God." For the first time, Trump presented himself at a campaign rally with his new vice president candidate Vance. At the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, the delegates had officially nominated the two as the candidate team for the presidential election in November. "I've made the right choice," Trump said about his new partner. "He's great."

Trump spoke fondly of the Republican convention in Milwaukee. "It was like a big, beautiful, four-day festival of love." There was no argument, no shouting, no chaos.

Schadenfreude over Biden's crisis

Trump joked about the upcoming Democratic National Convention in August. "They have some problems. First of all: They don't know who their candidate is." Trump referred to the Democrats' revolt against their frontrunner Biden, who is running for a second term in the November election. The 81-year-old is under immense pressure due to his age and doubts about his mental fitness. A growing number of party members are publicly urging Biden to drop out of the presidential race.

Trump made fun of Biden several times during his speech. Biden can't find his way off the stage. "He has no idea what he's doing." Trump insulted his opponent as a "weak old man" and "stupid people," who surrounds himself with fascists, communists, and bad people.

Trump was also offensive towards Vice President Kamala Harris, who is considered the most likely replacement candidate if Biden drops out. "She's crazy," Trump spat. "I can tell by her laughing."

The pressure on Biden continues to grow.

Collective pressure from Democrats on Biden is growing meanwhile. Unrelenting and in increasing numbers, more Democrats from the US Congress are publicly urging their party colleague to withdraw from the presidential race. Recently, over a dozen more Democrats made a withdrawal demand on Biden within the past 24 hours public. The tone is becoming rougher. An congressman publicly admitted that Biden recently did not recognize him at a meeting.

Behind the scenes, according to media reports, the first row of the party is trying to move Biden to withdraw, including the two top Democrats in Congress, Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, as well as the former Speaker of the House and still influential Democrat, Nancy Pelosi. Biden's former boss, ex-President Barack Obama, is also said to have expressed concerns.

Biden, who is currently isolating himself at his private home in Rehoboth Beach in the state of Delaware due to a Corona infection and is not making public appearances, gives the impression of being unfazed by the internal party rebellion and announced his return to the campaign trail for the coming week. According to US media, the 81-year-old, in private, no longer rules out dropping out of the race despite the enormous resistance within his own ranks.

Publicly, Biden has rejected all withdrawal demands so far. His campaign team insists persistently that he has no intention of quitting.
