- Trump and Harris are going to a televised duel in September.
The two U.S. presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, are set to face off in their first TV debate in September. ABC announced that the Republican and the Democrat have both agreed to a debate on September 10th (local time/September 11th CEST). This date was previously agreed upon by Trump and the incumbent Democratic U.S. President Joe Biden before Biden withdrew from the race and Harris stepped in.
Trump had initially proposed an alternative date with a different network. However, the Republican announced at a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida that he is now willing to participate in a total of three debates against Harris. His team has arranged dates with two other television networks for September 4th (September 5th in German time) and September 25th (September 26th in German time). It remains to be seen whether Harris will agree to these dates as well. Trump also mentioned that a debate between the vice-presidential candidates, J.D. Vance and Tim Walz, is planned, but he did not provide a possible date.
In recent days, Trump and Harris have been engaged in a public spat over the debate date, accusing each other of dodging the debate out of fear.
At his Mar-a-Lago press conference, Trump once again launched a scathing attack on Harris, labeling her as incompetent and stupid, and stating, "She's not smart enough to hold a press conference."
Despite Trump's proposal for alternative debate dates, I'm not going to commit to any of them yet. The back-and-forth over the debate dates has led to heated exchanges between Trump and Harris.
