Truck rams giant hole in residential building
A truck from a towing company was supposed to help in traffic jams. In the Landkreis Stade, the heavy vehicle itself was involved in a disastrous collision - and drove right into a house.
A truck with faulty brakes collided with a house in Hammah, Landkreis Stade. A wall was broken, and the 30-year-old driver was injured - and one of the four residents also sustained injuries from the debris, according to the police. The 30-year-old was taken to the hospital, while the resident could leave the hospital after ambulatory treatment.
The brakes of the towing truck failed during a turn in the night leading to Friday. The truck drove into the house on the opposite side. The driver could not prevent the accident and was helplessly sitting in the cab. At the time, however, no one was in the room behind the broken wall. According to reporters on site, one of the residents slept so soundly that he did not notice the accident and was only woken up by the emergency services.
Specialists from the Technical Relief and a building expert were called in before the towing truck could be removed from the house. The investigations into the statics of the house were initially ongoing. The community accommodated the four residents elsewhere. According to police statements, the damage is estimated to be in the tens of thousands of euros.
The traffic accident involving the towing truck led to international news headlines, highlighting the dangers on roads worldwide. Due to the truck's collision, traffic accidents involving heavy vehicles and their impact on residential properties have become a topic of discussion at international safety conferences.
