Crime - Trial against 17-year-old after knife attack at school

After a stabbing attack at a Wuppertal Gymnasium in February of this year, a process against a 17-year-old begins in August. The non-public trial started on August 21st, according to a spokesperson for the Wuppertal Regional Court. Initially, ten trial days were scheduled, with the last one on October 4th.

The defendant is accused of attempted murder in conjunction with grievous bodily harm. Previous statements indicated that four students were injured by stabbings at the gymnasium on February 22nd, as the 17-year-old is alleged to have suddenly attacked his classmates in a break room. Three other students suffered shock. The suspect reportedly inflicted serious injuries on himself with the knife as well. Three students, including the 17-year-old, were in intensive care.

The school was put on lockdown

The alleged perpetrator attended the upper grades of the school. A teacher was alerted by loud shouts and went to the scene, according to the prosecution's initial findings in late February. The teacher was able to calm him down and disarm him. However, when he saw the response teams, the 17-year-old is said to have attacked them. He was overpowered and arrested without the use of a firearm, it was reported then.

The school was put on lockdown. The police were informed through a call from the school office. Heavily armed response teams then secured and searched the school.
