Travis Kelce replies to Harrison Butker's graduation address.
During a speech at Benedictine College, a small Catholic institution in Atchison, Kansas, Butker labelled Pride Month as a "deadly sin" and claimed that a woman's contributions at home are more significant than any scholastic or professional objectives, among other statements.
In the most recent edition of the "New Heights" podcast, Kelce, who co-hosts with his brother Jason, shared his perspective on Butker's viewpoints.
"I regard him highly as a teammate. I believe Pat [Mahomes] summarised it perfectly; he's a fantastic person and teammate," Kelce said on the podcast. "He's treated friends and family that I've introduced to him with nothing but kindness and respect, and that's how he treats everyone. When it comes to his personal beliefs and what he said at St. Benedict's graduation ceremony, those are his."
"I can't say I concur with the majority or any of it, other than him cherishing his family and kids. I don't think it's fair for me to judge him based on his religious views and how he approaches life."
Mahomes, the team's three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback, echoed Kelce's stance when addressing reporters.
"He's a wonderful person despite some remarks that I may not fully agree with," Mahomes said.
Jason Kelce weighed in as well: "Different people have varied viewpoints, and they won't always align with your own.
"And let's face it, the things he spoke about during his commencement address are not ideologies I identify with. However, he was giving a speech at a Catholic university, which naturally led to a very religious and Catholic discourse.
"I find worth in someone discussing the importance of family and the significance of a mother's role while recognising that not every individual should be a homemaker if they don't wish to be."
Travis Kelce expressed gratitude for his upbringing in Cleveland Heights, a place with various social levels, faiths, and ethnicities.
"I appreciate where I'm from because it exposed me to various walks of life. I genuinely liked all of those individuals for a variety of reasons, and I didn't have to evaluate their worth based on their beliefs."
