Tragically, 14 lives lost in a ruthless ISIS assault in Afghanistan.
In Afghanistan, gunmen affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) reportedly murdered at least 14 individuals. As per the Afghan news agency Tolonews, this incident transpired at the boundary separating the central regions of Daikundi and Ghur. The victims had congregated to honor pilgrims returning from Karbala, Iraq, for the significant religious occasion of Arbaeen. Around three weeks prior, Shia followers had gathered there for this event.
The IS extremist group asserted responsibility for the attack. They stated that their "Caliphate soldiers" indiscriminately fired upon a group of "heretics" using assault rifles, as per an IS declaration disseminated through their typical propaganda mediums.
A representative from the Taliban's interior ministry acknowledged the occurrence yet disclosed no additional information. Despite pledging increased security following their seizure of power in August 2021 and declaring the IS vanquished, the group persists in executing recurring assaults. The IS considers Shias as apostates of Islam.
The attack by IS was claimed by the extremist group, who described their actions as indiscriminate firing upon a group of "heretics" by their "Caliphate soldiers." Regrettably, similar attacks by the IS continue despite the Taliban's pledge to eradicate them following their rise to power.
