Traffic - Traffic jam at Elbe tunnel after truck fire - one tube still closed

A truck fire in Hamburg's Elbtunnel caused long traffic jams on heavily trafficked Autobahn 7. The strong smoke in the fourth tube of the Elbtunnel was reported at around 10:20 am today. The flames have been extinguished, and the fire department's work has been completed. However, the truck must now be towed away, according to a spokesperson for the traffic control center. Additionally, the damage to the tunnel is being inspected, which may take longer.

The Elbtunnel was initially closed, then two lanes in the northbound direction could be reopened. Around noon, the traffic control center reported an eleven kilometer long traffic jam in the southbound direction. In the early afternoon, the news came that traffic could be resumed in both directions. Three tubes were reopened, but the fourth one remains closed. According to the police, it will still take some time before traffic flows correctly again. The bypass routes were reportedly very congested - with effects reaching into the city center.

The Elbtunnel fire in Hamburg, Germany, affected the traffic significantly, leading to a truck jam. The fire department had tackled the blaze in the Elbtunnel earlier, but the ongoing issue now involves towing the burnt-out truck. Due to the incident, fires were reportedly causing delays in adjacent traffic routes, resulting in a traffic jam extending for eleven kilometers.
