- Traffic affected by fire until next week
German Rail expects continued disruptions to train traffic until next week following a cable fire on a railway line in Berlin. Technical experts from the rail company are working to repair the damage as quickly as possible. "Due to multiple cables being affected, repair work will continue throughout the weekend. Train traffic is expected to remain disrupted until the start of next week," the company announced.
Overnight, a fire occurred in a cable shaft of the rail company in Berlin, resulting in disruptions to long-distance, regional, and S-Bahn traffic. The section affected is between Berlin Hauptbahnhof and Berlin-Spandau. Services to Berlin-Spandau will not be operating. Long-distance trains are being rerouted via the northern outer ring to Berlin-Gesundbrunnen and the Hauptbahnhof. Regional trains are also being rerouted, delayed, or skipping stations. The S-Bahn line S41/S42 between Westend and Beusselstraße is suspended, with replacement services in operation since 7:00 AM.
The disruptions in the train traffic are not limited to local commuters, as long-distance and regional trains are also affected due to the fire in the transport and telecommunications infrastructure. To manage the situation, technical teams are working tirelessly to restore the telecommunications links necessary for coordinating the rerouting of trains.
