Survey - Tolls and driver shortage cause problems for freight forwarders

The transport industry in Lower Saxony looks at the future with concerns. Around 30 percent of the companies assess the current situation as bad, more than 40 percent expect further deterioration, according to a recent survey by the IHK Lower Saxony and the General Association of the Transport Industry in Lower Saxony (GVN). Twelve percent currently look optimistically into the future.

Above all, the recently increased heavy goods vehicle toll and the driver shortage are causing problems for the companies. Eighty percent of the respondents named the skilled labor shortage as a major problem, 76 percent the toll increase. "The companies are heavily affected by the doubling of toll costs," says GVN managing director Uwe Garbe in a statement. "Many transport companies cannot pass on the increased costs to their customers and face significant financial challenges. We urgently need a moratorium on burdens for the businesses."

In addition, there are problems with the road network. "More than half of the companies are demanding better road infrastructure," says Felix Jahn, spokesman for the IHK Lower Saxony, in a statement. "A reduction in the federal transport budget is therefore unacceptable." Important projects such as the A20 and the A39 should not be further delayed. One hundred and seventy companies from all over Lower Saxony participated in the survey.

  1. The traffic in Hanover and other cities in Lower Saxony could be significantly affected if the driver shortage and increasing transportation costs continue to pose challenges for the industry.
  2. Addressing the future of transportation in Lower Saxony requires addressing the major issues identified in the survey conducted by the IHK and GVN, including the driver shortage and the toll increase.
  3. The transport sector in Lower Saxony, including companies in Hanover, is expressing concern about the impact of the traffic congestion and the harmful effects of tolls on the future of transportation.
  4. To alleviate the future challenges in the transportation industry, it is essential to take action on issues like the driver shortage and invest in better transportation infrastructure, as suggested by companies participating in the survey conducted by the IHK Lower Saxony and GVN.
