The direct male ancestral lineage of Tim Walz can be traced back to Kupfenheim, says the mayor of the Baden city.

Tim Walz's great-great-grandfather was from Kuppenheim in Baden

Donald Trump's ancestors come from Kallstadt in the Pfalz. The Democratic candidate for US Vice President also has German roots: Tim Walz's great-great-grandfather Sebastian Walz was born in Kuppenheim on May 11, 1843, and emigrated to the USA 24 years later.

The newly minted US Vice Presidential candidate, Tim Walz, has German ancestry. His great-great-grandfather hailed from the Baden city of Kuppenheim, as reported by the "Badischen Neuesten Nachrichten" from Karlsruhe. The ancestor of the Vice President of Kamala Harris was named Sebastian Walz, son of a shoemaker, and was born in Kuppenheim, which was then part of the Grand Duchy of Baden.

In 1867, he emigrated to the USA, where he died aged 71 in Lawrence, Nebraska, the newspaper reported. His son John Friedrich Walz married in 1898, from which Raymond A. Walz was born. This man, in turn, is the father of the farmer James Frederick Walz. The current Vice Presidential candidate was born on April 6, 1964, in West Point, Nebraska, as his son.

"The direct male lineage of Tim Walz can be traced back far in Kuppenheim," said the mayor of the Baden city, Karsten Mußler (Free Voters), to the newspaper. The US politician likely still has relatives in the city on the edge of the North Black Forest: Further ancestors of Walz came from several local families, the mayor reported to the newspaper. "Tim Walz would thus have numerous common ancestors with today's Kuppenheimers."

Walz, who represents liberal positions on abortion and cannabis, would not be the first man with German roots in the White House: The ancestors of the Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump come from Kallstadt in the Pfalz.

The Democratic US Presidential candidate Kamala Harris chose the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, as her Vice on Tuesday. The 60-year-old is a politician who finds access to voters without academic education with his simple language, but also represents liberal positions. The former National Guard member, teacher, and football coach represents liberal positions on abortion and cannabis. He also advocates for stricter gun buyer checks.

The US presidential election of 2024 will potentially see a politician with German roots in a significant role, as Kamala Harris selected Tim Walz, whose great-great-grandfather was born in Kuppenheim, as her Vice Presidential candidate.

In the upcoming US presidential election of 2024, the Republican candidate could also draw from German roots, given that Donald Trump's ancestors hail from Kallstadt.
