Top Chef - Tim Raue doesn't understand why work should be bad

Starkoch Tim Raue (50) values work and therefore harbors a certain misunderstanding towards younger generations. "I don't understand why young people apparently view work as something Negative today", Raue told the German Press Agency. For him, work has enabled him to become something in life and join the bourgeois establishment.

Investing in yourself

"I also find it difficult when work is negatively evaluated if someone works a lot or very much", the chef added. "If you want to develop further, you have to invest – in yourself. We live in a welfare society. I think we all have to contribute something, otherwise we won't be able to continue the life we have today", Raue stated.

There has been a debate in Germany for some time about working hours, the relationship between work and private life, and the demand for a Four-Day Week. Above all, the younger generation is said to place more value on Work-Life Balance.

Queue for schnitzel

Raue, who has worked his way up to become an internationally renowned top chef, advised young people to take a job in the Catering Industry. "It's an incredibly social profession. You get very direct feedback from people. Where else can you find that?", he said. "If you make a delicious schnitzel and there are 100 people in line: That gives you something."

Moreover, the catering industry offers opportunities to advance through performance. Anyone in Germany who has completed a thorough training as a Chef or Cook can get jobs all over the world. "Even with very good salaries", Raue explained. "If you become a kitchen chief in Dubai, you can start well. Those are incredible opportunities."

The top chef is back on TV regularly from Tuesday (July 16, 20.15 pm, RTL). Together with his wife Katharina, he helps gastronomes bring their businesses back to the forefront.
