- TikTok to Shell Out for User-Generated Event Videos
Popular video-sharing app TikTok is preparing to pay for user-recorded event clips, as per the German Society for the Collection of Event Rights (GWVR). This information was shared by GWVR following the signing of a licensing deal with TikTok. The payments will be issued exclusively for events like concerts hosted by GWVR members. Johanes Ulbricht, GWVR's CEO, revealed that TikTok is considering implementing flat-rate payments.
Established with the aim of including event organizers in the financial gains derived from concert recordings, GWVR is a subsidiary of the German Confederation of Music and Event Companies, which has its headquarters in Hamburg. The Confederation manages around 500 event agencies, tour organizers, festivals, and concert promoters, as stated by their own resources.
TikTok's move to pay for User-recorded event clips could potentially increase the platform's popularity for live music events. With the new flat-rate payments, musicians and event organizers affiliated with the German Confederation of Music and Event Companies may choose to promote their concerts more frequently on TikTok.
