TikTok to implement worldwide cutbacks in operations and marketing departments
It's believed that teams responsible for user support, communications, content, and marketing at TikTok will be significantly impacted by upcoming layoffs. The global user operations team is expected to be disbanded entirely, and the remaining staff will get assigned to roles within the trust and safety, marketing, content, and product units.
The news was initially leaked by The Information, with no response from TikTok regarding the reports.
A few TikTok workers received notice of the layoff plans on Tuesday night, following the initial publication of The Information's report. This notification came from Adam Presser, the company's head of operations, as well as Zenia Mucha, the Chief Brand and Communications Officer.
Allegedly, these layoff plans have been under consideration for several months - perhaps even a year - however, recent staff changes in the marketing, trust and safety, and operations departments caused delays in implementation.
These layoffs are not related to any legal or political pressures the company faces in the United States, potentially resulting in an app-wide ban of TikTok.
The exact number of employees affected by the cuts is currently unknown, but a "large percentage" of the approximately 1,000 team members who work on the affected groups could be part of the layoffs. In 2023, TikTok's US workforce numbered at 7,000.

In response to the global cutbacks, TikTok's business operations may require a tech-savvy team to adapt and innovate their strategies. Despite the layoffs, the need for tech specialists in areas like marketing and product development remains crucial for the company's future.
