German Weather Service - Thunderstorms in NRW in the evening - temperatures plummet

The first really hot day of summer holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia, but thunderstorms are already threatening again. Most people in North Rhine-Westphalia have enjoyed the sunshine and temperatures around 30 degrees. Many were drawn to the water, and there were long queues at ice cream parlors.

However, it is likely to remain just a short phase of high summer: The German Weather Service (DWD) is already calculating with a hot, humid air mass - and eventually with thunderstorms. "This will be a relatively powerful thunderstorm complex that moves in from Benelux," said a DWD meteorologist. It is, however, unclear how strongly the thunderstorms will affect North Rhine-Westfalia in the evening.

In the west, heavy storms with orkan-like gusts are possible near the border with Belgium and the Netherlands. Heavy rain and hail up to two centimeters in size is possible. It is difficult for weather experts to predict exactly which region will be affected.

An official severe weather warning from the DWD was not issued before midday. With the end of the summer, however, it is clear that the DWD expects changeable weather with many clouds and some showers in the coming days.

  1. Despite enjoying a day of soaring temperatures in North Rhine-Westphalia during the summer vacation, the German Weather Service (DWD) warns of an approaching thunderstorm, potentially affecting the region in the evening.
  2. Despite the delightful sunshine and temperatures reaching up to 30 degrees in North Rhine-Westphalia during summer vacation, the DWD anticipates thunderstorms, similar to those in the Benelux, that might bring heavy rain and hail to certain areas.
  3. While many in North Rhine-Westphalia spent their summer vacation basking in the sun and queuing at ice cream parlors, the DWD foresees a shift in weather, predicting thunderstorms and unstable conditions in the region in the coming days.
  4. This summer vacation in North Rhine-Westphalia has seen some scorching days, with temperatures reaching 30 degrees, but according to the DWD, the region should prepare for changing weather conditions as thunderstorms and showers are expected to move in.
