Thousands participate in a funeral procession moving through the heart of Mannheim.
Police colleagues in Mannheim organized a supportive march for their fallen comrade before his funeral. Approximately 2000 people, including cops, citizens, family members, and relatives of Officer Rouven Laur, gathered to pay their respects. The motorcycle squad led the walk, with two officers holding up Laur's image. Numerous other emergency services like the fire department and paramedics accompanied the procession, providing safety.
From 11 a.m., attendees gathered at the Rosengarten Congress Center for the 29-year-old slain police officer's funeral ceremony. High-ranking officials such as Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, Baden-Württemberg's Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann, and Interior Minister Thomas Strobl are expected at this somber event. Two weeks ago, a 25-year-old Afghan wounded five demonstrators from the Pax Europa group and two police officers with a knife at Mannheim's Market Square. Officer Laur later passed away from his injuries.
