Stuttgart Airport - Thousands of passengers are affected by an aircraft landing incident
A propeller plane's emergency landing at Stuttgart Airport affected thousands of passengers. Four planes in approach had to be rerouted to Erfurt, Munich and Nuremberg airports, according to the airport spokesperson.
Fourteen flights were canceled for approximately 2000 passengers. Thirty flights had delays, some departures were rescheduled to today's Thursday. In total, around 10,000 travelers were affected by the propeller plane pilot's accident.
Pilot forgot to deploy landing gear
On Wednesday evening, a single-engine propeller plane made an emergency landing at Stuttgart Airport. Preliminary findings indicate that the 65-year-old pilot did not notice that he had not extended the landing gear of the aircraft, as the police reported. The plane touched down on its fuselage and slid several hundred meters. The pilot was unharmed.
Due to cleaning work on the runway, air traffic was halted for several hours. The extent of the damage could not be determined initially. The airport fire department lifted the pilot after the accident to extend the landing gear. The plane was then towed to its parking position.
The emergency landing of the propeller plane at Stuttgart Airport caused air traffic disruptions, leading to forced landings in Erfurt, Munich, and Nuremberg airports. This incident resulted in fourteen flight cancellations and delayed departures for more than thirty flights, affecting over 10,000 travelers. The pilot's failure to deploy the landing gear likely contributed to the unexpected landing, resulting in minor damage to the fuselage. Despite these challenges, Baden-Württemberg air traffic regulators worked diligently to manage the situation and ensure the safety of passengers.
