"Those who work must have more than those who don't"

"Those who work must have more than those who don't"

For the FDP, savings are clearly at the forefront of next year's budget planning. FDP Secretary General Djir-Sarai rejects SPD demands for higher revenues for the "strong shoulders". He also holds out little hope that the government will quickly agree on a new annual budget.

FDP Secretary General Bijan Djir-Sarai has rejected SPD demands to increase taxes and levies in order to consolidate the federal budget. SPD leader Saskia Esken spoke on ARD television of a greater contribution from "the strong shoulders". This was completely the wrong approach, countered the FDP Secretary General in the ntv program "Frühstart". He could understand that the SPD would have to be "class warriors" before a federal party conference. "But I can tell you one thing very clearly, it is now about consolidation measures," Djir-Sarai said on "Frühstart". The German state does not have a revenue problem. "The money is there." According to Djir-Sarai, it is the expenditure that is the problem. The aim is to set up the state efficiently so that the targets can still be achieved.

The FDP politician did not want to comment on specific consolidation measures. There are still a whole series of challenges that need to be addressed, he said. "Personally, I am one of those who clearly say that it is better to be thorough, very thorough, rather than making decisions quickly or hastily," said Djir-Sarai.

The FDP Secretary General reiterated his criticism of the planned increase in the citizens' income. When the increase was decided, an inflation rate of 9.9 percent had been forecast. It is currently around three percent. "For this reason alone, the calculation must be different and this increase of twelve percent is too high," said Djir-Sarai. This discussion has a real economic background. The wage gap requirement is no longer guaranteed, especially in the low-wage sector. "It must still apply that those who work must have more than those who don't," said the FDP Secretary General.

FDP Secretary General Djir-Sarai criticized SPD leader Saskia Esken's suggestion to increase taxes for budget consolidation, stating that the focus should be on expenditure reductions rather than revenue increases. In the debate over the citizens' income increase, Djir-Sarai argued that the proposed 12% increase should be reconsidered due to lower-than-expected inflation rates, as it could impact the wage gap requirement, which should ensure that those who work have more than those who don't.
