"Those who can work must go to work"

"Those who can work must go to work"

The CDU Secretary General would like to abolish the citizen's income in its current form. "Those who can work must also go to work," says Carsten Linnemann. On the K issue, he pleads for his boss Friedrich Merz. The party and parliamentary group leader has the first right of access.

The Secretary General of the CDU, Carsten Linnemann, is in favor of a reform of the citizens' income, which was only introduced at the beginning of the year. In addition to support, there must also be the principle of demand. "And this coalition has abolished that again, there is virtually only support," said Linnemann on ntv's "Frühstart". "The state must of course be there with full force for those who cannot work, for whatever reason. But we must also make demands. Everyone who can take personal responsibility, who can take their life into their own hands, must go to work," said Linnemann.

The citizen's income would increase by around 25 percent in two years. "You read in the newspapers that many people say, why should I go to work at all?" The CDU politician showed understanding for people who are unable to work. "But if the bakery saleswoman knows that those who can work must also go to work, otherwise they have to do charitable work, then she also understands the social system. And that is also a contribution to social cohesion."

Linnemann does not rule out discussing a Germany Pact for Migration with SPD Chancellor Olaf Scholz again. "If the SPD says we'll make a new package, a new program, and talk again, we're available," said the Secretary General. The measures recently adopted by the Conference of Minister Presidents were not enough. The term "historic", chosen by Scholz, was inaccurate. "The Federal Chancellor really needs to watch out. These superlatives, yes, historically, historically there was an experience 34 years ago, the fall of the Berlin Wall. That is historic. But always this 'turbo farewell' and 'boom' and 'super boom'. And nothing follows afterwards. That doesn't create credibility in politics."

On the K issue, Linnemann spoke out in favor of CDU party and CDU/CSU parliamentary group leader Friedrich Merz. "If Friedrich Merz wants it, then I think he has to do it," said Linnemann on his party's candidacy for chancellor. "This is a man with convictions. And that's exactly what we need now, people with conviction and experience."

In the event that the federal government no longer has a majority, Linnemann is in favor of new elections. "Then we will have clear conditions," said the CDU politician, who nevertheless assumes that the traffic light coalition will continue to exist. "The traffic light will see it through. Once you're in power, you don't let them take it away from you. That's the experience. And we'll have to see about everything else."

Carsten Linnemann discussed the citizen's income on ntv's "Frühstart," expressing his belief that those who can work should do so. He criticized the current form of the citizen's income, stating, "But we must also make demands. Everyone who can take personal responsibility, who can take their life into their own hands, must go to work." Later in the same interview, when discussing potential changes to migration policies, Linnemann mentioned the possibility of revisiting a Germany Pact for Migration with Olaf Scholz if the SPD proposed new measures.
