- This week, Harris and Walz are set to conduct their initial joint interview.
American Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris along with her partner Tim Walz are readied to conduct their inaugural joint interview since their nomination. This interview is scheduled to air on American broadcasting network CNN during the wee hours of Friday (3:00 AM CEST). Donald Trump, the Republican presidential contender, has frequently lambasted his rival for not engaging in interviews or press conferences since assuming her new role.
Following Joe Biden's decision to not seek reelection as U.S. President in July, urged on by his party, Harris became the prominent Democratic figure in the race, with Walz as her sidekick. Over the past few weeks, Harris has been visible only in controlled settings, with preplanned and planned-out campaign events. The pinnacle of this was last week's Democratic National Convention in Chicago, during which they were showcased in an impressive spectacle.
As the days progress, Harris is expected to demonstrate her abilities in scenarios that are not entirely managed by her campaign team. These include the interview, along with a TV debate against Trump planned for the early hours of September 11. Trump took to Truth Social, the platform he co-developed, to announce that he has agreed upon the debate rules with Harris' team. According to these rules, neither of them will be allowed to carry notes or reference sheets during the debate.
In her new role as the prominent Democratic figure, Kamala Harris, the President-elect's running mate, has opted for a strategic approach to public appearances, limiting herself to controlled settings and planned events. As the President of the United States, Harris will likely face unpredictable scenarios during future debates and interviews, such as the one scheduled against Donald Trump.
