These will be the upcoming iPads
The most accurate Apple analyst predicts which new iPads are coming in the next few months. Among them are a huge Air model and Pro devices with OLED displays and M3 chips.
Unlike in previous years, Apple has not yet unveiled any new iPads this fall, and it is unlikely to do so before Christmas. According to the usually well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, successors to the models, some of which are already two years old, will not be released until spring 2024.
This seems to confirm what was already suspected at the beginning of the year: Apple may have put so many resources into the development of its Vision Pro data glasses that other projects have had to be postponed.
Kuo writes on"Medium" that new iPad Pro models are likely to be released at the end of the first quarter or the beginning of the second quarter. They will not only have OLED displays instead of mini-LED screens, but will also be equipped with the enormously powerful M3 chip. Apple is also said to have slightly changed the design. According to Kuo, the Pro update was originally planned for the first three months of 2024, but Apple had to postpone it due to production problems with the new panels.
Pros could become even more expensive
The OLED Pros could become even more expensive. According to the analyst, this may be due to a new iPad Air with a 12.9-inch display, which is set to go into mass production in the first quarter along with a 9.8-inch version. It could cost around the same as the current Pros. However, Apple presumably wants to maintain the price gap and therefore charge more for the new top models, writes Kuo.
The analyst therefore expects "only" six to eight million of the new iPad Pros to be sold in the coming year. This may not only be due to higher prices, but also to possible cannibalization by the 12.9-inch Air.
Anyone looking to buy an affordable new iPad will probably have to wait until the second half of 2024. Only then will Apple be able to send updates to the standard model and the iPad mini into mass production.
Apple has to accept a 15 percent drop
