These top suggestions will cool you down effectively.

Stiftung Warentest recently evaluated six existing air conditioners, out of which four impressed them. These test appliances are known as split systems, which are considered more efficient in comparison to monoblocks. While monoblocks drew attention several years back, they are now perceived to be inefficient.

In the past, air conditioning systems were not a priority in Germany. However, the rise in the number of hot days as a result of climate change has increased demand for air conditioning equipment. In light of this situation, Stiftung Warentest decided to test these appliances to recommend ones that perform well. With winter on the rise, this test was also designed to find out if air conditioners can efficiently heat rooms during the cold season, a possible alternative to fan heaters during the gas crisis.

Heating with Air Conditioning Can Save You Money

This idea might sound unusual, but it's not entirely unfounded. Air conditioning systems are actually air-to-air heat pumps and can prove to be economic. According to the test results, heating the room with these appliances in place of gas has proven to be around 20% cheaper on average. Warentest even mentioned that the expenses are similar to using a specific heat pump.

Air conditioning units work optimally in split systems. The interior element cools the air using the refrigerant chilled by the outdoor element. However, the disadvantage of split systems is that tenants must seek the homeowner's permission to install them. Professional assistance is also required for their installation – an extra cost that could accumulate to several hundred euros.

The Most Efficient and Affordable Air Conditioner

In this test, the Bosch CLC8001i-W + CLC8001i 25 E combo was declared the winner. This model has a quality score of 2.3 and retails for an average of 1500 euros. Among other things, it has the most efficient cooling & heating, along with good eco-friendly characteristics. The handling of this unit is average.

Right after the Bosch model, there are two more systems with a collective rating of 2.4. The Fujitsu ASYG09KGTF + AOYG09KGCA costs around 2100 euros but is very user-friendly. On the other hand, the Midea MSOPBU-09HRFN8-ME + MOX333-09HFN8-ME is priced at 1300 euros but is slightly more expensive in terms of heating costs.

The cheapest combination of outdoor and indoor air conditioners is the Daikin FTXP25N5V1B + RXP25M5V1B. This device is priced at an average of 1210 euros and received an overall quality score of 2.5. Its cooling property, environmental efficiency, and handling are considered satisfactory, though its heating is only fair.
