These are the best iPad alternatives

Good tablets can be cheap if they are not from Apple. Stiftung Warentest lists strong alternatives to the iPads at prices from 170 euros. There is even a competitor at the top of the list of large tablets, but it is also quite expensive.

Apple's tablets are always a good choice; no current iPad has a weaker quality rating from Stiftung Warentest. However, the devices are not exactly cheap, especially the particularly powerful ones. However, if you want to spend less money, you can find good Android alternatives that have hardly performed worse than the iPads. If you want a very large tablet, one of Apple's competitors is the first choice.

Standard size

Among tablets with display sizes between 9.7 and 11.8 inches, the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro (Gen.2) is the second-best current device with an overall score of 1.9. Stiftung Warentest rated its 11.2-inch display as very good and its functions, endurance and handling as good. Only in terms of versatility was the device only rated as satisfactory. The Lenovo tablet is currently available from around 480 euros.

The standard version Lenovo Tab P11 (Gen. 2) with an 11.4-inch screen is hardly any weaker and is available for as little as 230 euros. Apart from its versatility, the tablet received consistently good marks.

The Xiaomi Redmi Tab only has satisfactory handling because it does not have a printed manual. Otherwise, it shines for just under 200 euros with very good endurance, a good 10.6-inch panel and good functionality. As with almost all Android tablets, its versatility is satisfactory. Quality rating: 2.2.

If you don't want to spend more than 170 euros, the Huawei MatePad SE is still a good (2.5) alternative. The 10.3-inch display is good, and the tablet scored satisfactory in all other categories.

Very large tablets

Among tablets with screen diagonals larger than 11.8 inches, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra 5G topped the list of devices tested since 2022 with a quality rating of 1.7. The testers found the 14.4-inch display to be very good and gave it high marks for functions, endurance, handling and even versatility. However, at a price of around 1100 euros, the tablet is no bargain.

The Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 is considerably cheaper, with one retailer currently offering it for 500 euros. Normally you have to spend 700 euros for it. The device achieved an overall score of 1.8. Its greatest strength is its very good endurance, display (13-inch), functions and handling were rated good by Stiftung Warentest, while its versatility was satisfactory.

If an 11.9-inch display is large enough, the Honor Pad 8 is the clear price-performance winner with a strong quality rating of 2.2. You can get it for around 240 euros, or even cheaper if you're lucky. With the exception of satisfactory versatility, the testers gave the tablet good marks in all categories.
