- The World Health Organization advocates for secure immunization in Gaza.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged for a secure execution of the proposed mass immunization of kids in the Gaza Region against polio. Every involved parties need to support this, as stated by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on X platform. The immunization squads are geared up to commence the vaccination process on Sunday.
Previously, the WHO announced that all parties had agreed on "temporary pledges for what they call area-specific humanitarian truces." These are temporary ceasefires in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
In the past few weeks, 1.26 million doses of polio vaccine have been transported into the Gaza Region, with another 400,000 anticipated to arrive shortly. A total of 640,000 kids under the age of 10 will receive the vaccination, with two doses given four weeks apart.
The immunization will commence in central Gaza initially. As per the Israeli agency COGAT, in charge of Palestinian affairs, this will continue until September 3. From September 4 to 6, immunization will take place in southern Gaza, and from September 7 to 9 in northern Gaza.
It's crucial that the execution of the immunization is carried out with strict adherence to health and safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of all children involved. The World Health Organization has emphasized the need for appropriate health and safety measures to be implemented during the mass vaccination against polio in the Gaza Region.
