The weather becomes dangerous here in the evening

Summer brings us today an extremely hot day, which is also becoming increasingly humid. The next few days will then not be as warm, but we will continue to have a hot and humid weather condition - including thunderstorm risk.

ntv.de: How hot is it today?

Paul Heger: Today is often sunny. In the north and northwest, it is a bit cloudier after the rain has passed, but it will remain dry until evening. Over the Alps, there is a possibility of isolated heat thunderstorms. It will be hot everywhere, around 30 degrees, with the east and southwest being the warmest at around 33 or 34 degrees. Only along the coasts with an easterly wind are there more pleasant temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees. The hottest day of the year was actually on June 29th in the Bavarian Kitzingen with 35.0 degrees. It was not as hot in the area at that time.

When will it start rumbling dangerously?

Approximately between 20 and 22 hours, thunderstorms from Benelux and France will reach us. They spread across the western half of Germany. Whether it is individual cells or a thunderstorm front, the models still differ. However, many indications suggest that a front is forming. Then we will have to deal with widespread thunderstorms with heavy rain and storms to gale-force winds from the Saarland, northern Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate via North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse to Lower Saxony. The later the thunderstorms come, the weaker the gales will be. But be careful! Some models are playing with precursor thunderstorm cells that could form from Bavaria to the Baltic Sea. These variants are currently on the retreat - but they must be monitored on the radar.

What does the thunderstorm risk look like on Wednesday?

In the east, it is mostly still dry with some sun. Elsewhere, there are already some showers and thunderstorms on the move. In the west, it will be a bit drier. The thunderstorms are likely to reach the east quite reliably, and later the outer south-east as well, with thunderstorm risk. From the west, there is more sunshine, but there are also still some individual showers and thunderstorms - however, with lower thunderstorm risk. It is hot and humid with temperatures of 25 to 31 degrees, 20 to 24 degrees on the mountains and at the coasts.

Does the weather calm down afterwards?

Unfortunately not, it continues to circulate in an exhausting extension. Although the exact tracks are still uncertain. It will not be as hot anymore, but it will remain humid. In the southwest, there are many clouds and in the course of the day, there are heavy showers and thunderstorms. Towards the southeast, it is initially sunnier, then heavy thunderstorms may form. The thunderstorm risk is somewhat lower, but still present. Towards the northwest, it remains quieter, often even dry. The highest temperatures are between 20 and 30 degrees, with the east and south being particularly humid.

And what's the trend towards the weekend?

On Friday, it will be very uncertain, but something new is coming our way. Probably there will be more sunshine towards the east and southeast, while the last thunderstorms are still moving away. From the west and southwest, Tief Frieda with heavy thunderstorms could reach us. The thunderstorm risk is likely to be particularly large in the south and southwest and in the night to Saturday, the thunderstorm block moves northwards. It remains between 20 and 30 degrees and it is again hot and humid.

The international meteorological community is monitoring the current hot and humid weather conditions, with an increased risk of thunderstorms, particularly in western Germany. Despite the approaching cooling trend, the weather will continue to be hot and humid, posing a persistent threat of thunderstorms throughout the week.

From Wednesday, it is also advisable to have a shelter nearby in the English Garden.
