The union is taking action against Trump and Musk.
Donald Trump and Elon Musk bash workers who keep the economy running: workers. A union isn't having it and files a complaint. The case is now with a federal agency in the United States.
The United Auto Workers (UAW) union is taking action against remarks by tech billionaire Elon Musk and former US President Donald Trump about striking workers. The union filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) alleging unfair labor practices against the Tesla CEO and the Republican presidential candidate.
Musk and Trump discussed firings of striking workers in their much-publicized conversation on X. In documents submitted to the NLRB, the union accuses the two men of interfering with workers exercising their right to join a union. The NLRB has announced it will look into the allegations.
Trump praises Musk
Trump praised Musk for firing striking workers. The UAW argued this could intimidate employees on Trump's campaign team or at Tesla who want to join a union. Trump told Musk, "I'm watching what you're doing. You go in and say, 'Do you want to stop?' I won't name the company, but they're on strike, and you say, 'That's okay. You're all fired.'" Musk agreed and laughed as Trump spoke.
UAW President Shawn Fain, who supports the presidential candidacy of Trump's rival Kamala Harris, said Trump is anti-worker. "Both Trump and Musk want the working class to sit down and shut up, and they're openly laughing about it," Fain said.
Brian Hughes, a senior advisor to the Trump campaign, dismissed the allegations as unserious and a "shameless political stunt" aimed at undermining Trump's strong support among American workers.
The UAW's complaint against Musk and Trump is being handled by the National Labor Relations Board, a federal agency located in the United States of America. Despite facing criticism from the UAW, Trump continues to defend his support for Musk's actions, expressing his approval from within the United States.
