The UN Security Council approves a plan for a truce in Gaza.
The United Nations Security Council has shown backing for an extensive truce initiative in the Gaza clash proposed by U.S. President Joe Biden. The council approved a resolution regarding the issue. So far, Israel has accepted the proposal, but there's still no reply from Hamas.
The UN Security Council recently endorsed a strategy to quell the on-going conflict in Gaza proposed by U.S. President Joe Biden. The resolution received approval from various member states, except Russia, at the United Nations headquarters in New York. "We voted for peace today," asserted U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield post the vote.
This legally binding resolution advocates for Biden's plan, which pushes for a cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip across three phases. The U.S. claims that only Hamas is yet to endorse the plan. The Israeli government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not issued an official statement expressing their agreement with the proposal yet.
The resolution highlights Israel's approval and urges Hamas to follow suit. It urges all parties involved to implement the plan "immediately and unconditionally". This truce initiative is the eleventh resolution passed by the United Nations Security Council in connection to the Gaza Strip conflict. To date, only four resolution proposals have been accepted.
Biden introduced a more extensive truce plan at the end of May. It entails a temporary, complete, and unrestricted ceasefire that would persist for six weeks. During this interim period, a selected group of captives will be freed, followed by the release of Palestinians detained in Israel. After that, combat would cease permanently, and the remaining hostages will be freed. In the eventual final stage, per the plan, the rebuilding of Gaza would commence.

The resolution calls on Hamas, as urged by the UN Security Council, to agree to Joe Biden's proposed ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Despite Israel's acceptance of the plan, the ongoing Israel war shows no sign of ceasing until Hamas officially endorses the truce.
