Climate - The tourism industry will adjust to weather extremes

The Brandenburg tourism regions aim to better adapt to the effects of climate change and weather extremes such as drought or heavy rain. A climate impact report is being worked on, which is expected to contain practice guidelines and recommendations, for example for tourism organizations and accommodation businesses, as announced by the Tourism Marketing Brandenburg GmbH (TMB). The Centre for Sustainable Tourism in Eberswalde is among those involved.

In workshops this summer, tourism professionals will discuss impacts on accommodations and gastronomy, for example, through higher energy costs and water scarcity. In water-rich Brandenburg, strategies for protecting against heat, storms, and flooding, for example, for campground operators and water sports providers, will also be discussed. According to TMB, effects of the climate change are already noticeable in the tourism industry.

Brandenburg is known as a rainfall-deficient federal state and suffers from dry soils. Facing water scarcity, lakes may dry out on the one hand, while campgrounds may suffer from flooding on the other.
