The Top Blogging Application for Mac Users
The latest internet craze involves the resurgence of blogging. People are expressing themselves online once again.
I'm using the word "blog" a little differently than before. This renaissance has manifested in various forms, such as email newsletters that resemble the early days of blogging. It's an exciting trend to witness.
Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook have become a chaotic mess. Fortunately, there's been an increase in individuals establishing their own websites and publishing their thoughts on these platforms. I've personally resumed using my personal blog more frequently since setting up WordPress' integration with Fediverse. My active comments section hasn't been this lively in over a decade, and I'm loving it.
However, creating, editing, and submitting articles on the web version of WordPress can be quite cumbersome. This is why I was ecstatic to discover Marsedit, an exquisite Mac app that simplifies blog management. It's much quicker than loading up WordPress, and it seamlessly integrates with my operating system.
Open the application, and you'll be prompted to input your blog URLs. You can add as many as you desire. Once you've done so, you'll have a convenient overview of all your posts and pages in one place.
Marsedit is compatible with most blogging platforms. I've been using it with my WordPress site, but it also works with Micro.blog, Tumblr, TypePad, and Movable Type, as well as any blog service that supports a standard MetaWeblog or AtomPub interface.
In addition to providing a streamlined space for composing posts, its image integration is fantastic. The app connects with both Apple Photos and local folders on your computer. You can effortlessly adjust the size and remove metadata within a few seconds. This is significantly faster than uploading an image to WordPress.
Marsedit offers a few additional features worth mentioning. If you're a Markdown user, you can write your posts using that format, which is a feature typically absent from most blogging systems. It even supports syntax highlighting (if you're familiar with it). Additionally, you can write and save your posts offline, which is impossible with a web-based platform.
The app isn't flawless. I haven't figured out how to utilize it for managing comments, which I find disappointing. If such functionality was available, I would rarely need to access WordPress. However, for writing, posting, and editing, MarsEdit meets my requirements.
MarsEdit retails for $59.95 as a one-time payment or $10 per month as part of Setapp, a subscription that includes multiple popular applications. Whether this cost is worthwhile depends on your blogging frequency. With my renewed interest in blogging, I consider the app a worthwhile investment.
