The Taliban displaced 281 security personnel lacking facial hair.
The Afghan Ministry of Morality and Immorality, a group aligned with the strict Islamic Taliban, has been causing quite a stir. They've let go of 281 security personnel due to their refusal to grow beards as per their rules. Last year, around 13,000 individuals were apprehended for allegedly engaging in immoral activities, according to the ministry's records. Interestingly, half of these individuals were released within a day, but no information about their offenses or genders was disclosed.
Mohibullah Mochlis, the Ministry's director of planning and legislation, spoke at a press conference. He revealed that last year, they destroyed 21,328 musical instruments and impeded the sale of "unethical" films in marketplaces by thousands of vendors. Furthermore, 281 individuals were identified for not sporting beards, leading to their termination. Following the Taliban's seizure of power in August 2021, they took control of the Women's Ministry's premises in Kabul.
International human rights organizations and the United Nations have voiced their concerns over the ministry's restrictions on women and the curtailment of freedom of expression. The U.N. in Afghanistan has reported instances of ministry officials apprehending women for not adhering to their specific interpretation of Islamic attire. The Taliban, however, dismissed these accusations as unfounded, claiming that their rules match their understanding of Islamic law and Afghan customs.
