On the eightieth day of the rape trial in Avignon, France, the main defendant, Dominique P., was anticipated to testify for the first time. However, just prior to the hearing commencing, he was transferred to the hospital. Therefore, his testimony has been pushed back.

During the rape trial in the French city of Avignon, the court appearance of the main offender, Dominique P., was postponed. The 71-year-old was taken to the hospital, according to his lawyer. The judge presiding over the trial, Roger Arata, mentioned that the trial may be disrupted due to the 71-year-old's illness. Arata ordered a medical examination to determine the defendant's condition.

Dominique P. left the courtroom early the previous day, reportedly due to stomach pains. His lawyer, Beatrice Zavarro, dismissed speculations that P. was avoiding the court hearing. She stated that her client had repeatedly expressed his intention to testify and had no intentions of avoiding the trial. The trial may be suspended "until his condition improves," indicated the judge. The attorneys for his ex-wife, Gisele P., agreed with this decision. Neither the 72-year-old nor her children wished to testify in the defendant's absence.

The Frenchman, who had been drugging and offering his wife to strangers for rape, was set to testify in court for the first time. Experts had diagnosed him as "egocentric" and "manipulative" the previous day. He had admitted to abusing his now-divorced wife, Gisele P., without her knowledge, describing it as an addiction.

Last week, Gisele P. described in detail in court how she experienced years of unexplained memory lapses and gynecological issues prior to discovering the extent of her husband's abuse. The revelation came to light when her husband was implicated in the justice system for filming women's skirts in a shopping center. Investigators discovered approximately 4,000 photos and videos of the unconscious woman on his hard drives, USB sticks, and computers.

Investigators discovered nearly 4,000 pieces of evidence of the crimes on the main defendant's hard drives, USB sticks, and computers. Based on the footage, they identified around 200 instances of rape of Gisele P. between 2011 and 2020. Her husband committed the majority of the rapes, with other men involved in 92 instances. In 50 of these instances, the perpetrators have been identified. Apart from Dominique P., 50 other defendants will stand trial, facing up to 20 years in prison. The trial began in early September and is expected to continue until mid-December, following interventions from medical examiners, psychologists, various witnesses, and numerous co-defendants.

The trial's continuation was put in jeopardy due to Dominique P.'s health issues, as the court heard about instances of violence against his ex-wife.The witness list for the trial includes around 50 other defendants who are alleged to have been involved in acts of violence against Dominique P.'s ex-wife.
