Wiesn construction starts - The scale is full: will prices explode this year?
Tree machines roll, trucks transport containers: Construction work begins approximately two and a half months before the start of the Munich Oktoberfest, on a Monday. The festival ground is turned into a construction site, entry is prohibited for safety reasons. However, there are still possibilities to cross the area. The Oktoberfest is celebrated from September 21 to October 6, and is known as the largest folk festival in the world.
Construction work begins earlier this year than usual. The hosts have an extra week of time – they had complained that the time was no longer sufficient, that the work was becoming increasingly complex.
New record prices at Oktoberfest?
It is still unclear what the beer will cost – a central question for the people of Munich. The city of Munich will announce the prices in the middle of the week. It is already apparent that the price for a liter of beer will likely at least reach the 15 Euro mark in some tents. The highest price was 14.90 Euro last year. In many tents, a liter of beer cost 14.50 Euro, with an average price of 14.18 Euro.
Procedure for beer prices: Hosts and breweries submit their planned beverage prices – including for lemonade and mineral water. The city only checks if the proposals are reasonable. Mineral water cost over ten Euros in many cases in 2023. For the first time in 2023, there were free water fountains. Ten of them are planned for this year, double the number from the previous year.
Development work for Oktoberfest commenced earlier than usual this year in Munich, with construction machines and trucks transporting containers. Despite the festival ground being transformed into a construction site, there's a riddle for locals: Will the beer price during Oktoberfest set a new record? Last year, a liter of beer cost an average of 14.18 Euro, but rumors suggest it might surpass the 15 Euro mark this year.
