The roof of the net branch suddenly collapses
Within just eight days, roofs of two Netto branches collapse. First, it hits a store in Schleswig-Holstein, injuring twelve people lightly. Now, the roof of a supermarket in Lower Saxony also collapses.
In the districts of Verden and Diepholz in Lower Saxony, heavy rain has led to flooded streets and cellars. In the Syke district of Barrien, the roof of a Netto branch also collapsed. As the market is currently being renovated, the water masses could easily enter. "The roof was open due to the expansion work," said Lutz Budelmann of the local fire department in the district of Diepholz. About 20 people had to leave the store immediately. No injuries were reported.
The market is closed, and a structural engineer must now be called in. The massive water ingress had flooded the market, reported fire department spokesman Lutz Budelmann. "It was a thunder cell with heavy rain, hundreds of liters of water came down," explained the spokesman.
This was not the first incident of this kind. Just about a week ago, the roof of another Netto branch in Ratzeburg (district of Herzogtum Lauenburg) in Schleswig-Holstein also collapsed. The store was examined by an expert after the incident. A drone was also used during the works, as a police spokeswoman said. The expert will be supported by the criminal police and the fire department.
Twelve people lightly injured
The building is closed due to the risk of collapse. There is still acute danger in the immediate vicinity, according to police reports. Therefore, the area has been cordoned off and is being guarded by a security service.
Twelve people were lightly injured in the collapse. No one was found under the rubble as everyone could leave the building in time. According to witnesses, the collapse of the roof on Tuesday of the previous week was preceded by loud cracking. Customers and employees were then asked to leave the building immediately.
In the Syke district of Barrien, located in Lower Saxony, the roof of another Netto branch collapsed due to heavy floods. The market was currently under renovation, allowing easy entrance for the water masses, as Lutz Budelmann from the Diepholz local fire department stated.
Additionally, this incident in Lower Saxony follows a similar incident that occurred in Schleswig-Holstein, where the roof of a Netto branch collapsed, causing twelve people mild injuries.
