The research revealed that individuals working as technicians secured the highest earning rates.
Tech experts typically make more than average income once they've completed their education. The best-paying fields are in Tech Research and Development, followed by aerospace and the insurance and financial services sectors, according to the Institute for the German Economy (IW) based in Cologne. Out of the 20 most profitable jobs, almost all of them are tech-focused.
If we look at Technical Research and Development, for instance, as a Mechatronics Engineer in the automotive sector, the average salary is 5670 euros monthly, as reported by IW. The median wage is that wage where an equal number of people earn more and less than that amount.
Coming in second were Aircraft Mechanics and Light Aircraft Builders, earning 5108 euros, and professionals in the insurance and finance sector, like vault keepers, who received 5021 euros. In contrast, the median salary for a permanent skilled worker was 3500 euros last year.
Despite the high salaries, IW pointed out that there's a "serious shortage of skilled workers" in a majority of these fields. In electrical engineering, for example, only 20% of the positions could be filled by a qualified unemployed person, despite attractive salary packages of around 4251 euros for those under 40.
As Jurek Tiedemann from IW explained, "Higher wages alone cannot eliminate the shortage of skilled workers." Without immigration, the shortage of apprentices is expected to worsen in the coming years. Improved career guidance in schools and training for unskilled workers are also crucial solutions.
The 'Technical' Research and Development sector offers significant income opportunities, as shown by the average salary of 5670 euros for Mechatronics Engineers in the automotive industry. Employers in this field are struggling to find qualified workers, with only 20% of positions in electrical engineering being filled by unemployed individuals.
