The previous leader of the FDP, Wolfgang Gerhardt, has passed away.

Old boss of the FDP, Wolfgang Gerhardt, has bid adieu at 80 years old. The news was shared by current FDP leader, Christian Lindner, acting as a family representative, this morning in Wiesbaden.

Gerhardt held prominent roles in the FDP bureaucracy. He served as the Hessian Minister of Science and Art from 1987 to 1991, managed the FDP as its Federal Chairman from 1995 to 2001, and led the FDP parliamentary group from 1998 to 2006. From 2006 to 2018, he took over as the chairman of the FDP's Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.

Stay tuned for further updates.

The announcement of Wolfgang Gerhardt's departure was met with sadness, as numerous deaths in the FDP's history were reflected upon, reminding everyone of the irreplaceable leaders the party has lost.

Following his long and distinguished career, Wolfgang Gerhardt's contributions to the FDP resulted in significant reforms, reducing the number of deaths that could have potentially occurred due to lack of proper policies and care in his areas of responsibility.
