Environmental protesters voice concerns. - The previous administration has come under fire from Scholz's office.
Protesters from the organization Letzte Generation scribbled "Tell the truth!" on the northern side of the Federal Chancellery on a Thursday morning. Based on the Berlin police, nine individuals were involved in this act of civil disobedience. Earlier reports claimed that only six participated. The authorities recorded the personal information of the six men and three women before allowing them to leave. The authorities are now probing into charges of property damage and breaching the Assembly Act.
The organization's members were carrying signs, but no rally had been registered. The calligraphy was done by two members with a paintbrush and black paint. The police concluded their operation by 10 a.m. and cleaned the lettering off with a high-pressure hose.
Letzte Generation calls for bluntness from Scholz
The activists claimed their message was meant for Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who spoke about the "current security situation" in the German parliament that morning. Letzte Generation voiced their grievances through a statement, imploring the chancellor to publicly declare that the climate disaster poses an immediate threat to security and life.
Reportedly, the group had posted this request on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Willy-Brandt House, home to the SPD federal party headquarters. Their actions were a response to the announcement of two hunger strikers who indicated they would no longer drink water.
A large group of climate protesters from the "Hunger until you're honest" campaign have been pushing Scholz for months to publicly acknowledge that the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere have already surpassed tolerable limits. There is no more room for carbon emissions, they assert.
