The Palestinian leader, Abbas, encourages United Nations member nations to cease delivering weapons to Israel.
Abbas voiced out during the UN General Assembly debate, which saw over a hundred world leaders in New York on the third day, urging the global community to halt weapons supply to Israel. His plea was, "Halts this atrocity, stops killing innocent women and children, put an end to the genocide, cease the delivery of weapons to Israel." He emphasized, "This craziness must cease, the entire world shares the blame for the suffering of our people in Gaza and the West Bank."
Attending the week-long UN summit, the Middle East crisis serves as the main topic in the speeches and clandestine meetings. On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is expected to address the UN General Assembly.
Following the substantial assault on Israel by the radical Palestinian Islamic group, Hamas, on October 7, and the subsequent conflict in Gaza, regional tension has intensified significantly. Over the past few days, Israel's northern region has been targeted continuously by the Hezbollah militia, an ally to Hamas. In response, Israel executed its largest military operation against the Iran-backed Iranian militia located in Lebanon just a few days ago.
Abbas also urged international leaders, attending the UN summit, to consider his plea aimed at halting weapons supply to Israel, following his impassioned speech at the UN General Assembly. The world leaders, including those set to speak later in the week, such as Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, are now under increased pressure to address the escalating crisis in the Middle East, with Abbas's words resonating strongly among the global community.
