The number of acute respiratory diseases in Germany is decreasing
The number of acute respiratory diseases in Germany is decreasing but remains at a relatively high level for the season. According to a report by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), there are currently approximately 4.1 million acute respiratory diseases in the population. Rhinoviruses and Sars-CoV-2 viruses are in circulation, as stated in the report referring to the week of July 8th. The number of severe cases is overall at a low level.
Regarding Corona infections, most monitoring systems reported an increase, while some remained stable, according to the RKI. The RKI received approximately 4,290 laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 cases last week, compared to around 3,600 cases in the previous week. Experts at the RKI have observed an increase in virus load in sewage water since mid-May.
The House Doctors' Association stated in response to inquiries about current symptoms of Covid-19 that gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, or vomiting could also be a sign of a Sars-CoV-2 infection in previous variants. The association cannot yet determine whether these symptoms are occurring more frequently at this time.
According to the RKI, the summer holidays in several federal states could influence the activity of diseases and monitoring systems.
The Robert Koch Institute also provides data on various respiratory disorders within Germany, reporting an ongoing circulation of rhinoviruses and Sars-CoV-2 in the population. Despite the decrease in overall acute respiratory diseases, the number of severe cases remains relatively low.
