The new nationality law has attracted the attention of the citizenship authorities in many places
The new citizenship law, effective since June 27, has led to a significant increase in applications at the authorities responsible for naturalizations. "Around 4,000 applications were received at the State Office for Immigration in June, averaging about 133 applications per day," a spokesperson for the Berlin office told us on request. No reliable figures are available for July yet. However, the State Office had already received over 5,000 applications from June 27 to July 21, averaging around 200 applications per day.
As the German Press Agency learned from the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, an average of over 5,600 applications were submitted per month in the Free State from January to May. In June alone, there were already more than 8,400 applications. Figures for July are not yet available, but an increase is expected. Given the number of applications, processing times may currently be significantly longer.
The new increase in applications post-June 27 under the new citizenship law is also visible in Bavaria, with an average of over 8,400 applications in June alone. Anticipating a continuation of this trend, longer processing times for applications are now a possibility.
