The Mpox virus ailment doesn't share the same magnitude as the Coronavirus pandemic.
As per the World Health Organization's evaluation, the recent outbreak of the infectious illness Monkeypox doesn't align with the intensity of the COVID-19 epidemic. Hans Kluge, WHO's Regional Director for Europe, highlighted this during a press meeting on Tuesday, stating, "Monkeypox isn't the new COVID."
Regardless of whether we're dealing with the old or new strain, health authorities have a grasp on managing the virus's proliferation.
"United action is essential against Monkeypox," Kluge stressed. "So, are we going to establish mechanisms to monitor and eradicate Monkeypox on a global scale? Or will we slide back into a period of panic and negligence? Our response now and in the near future will serve as a significant litmus test for Europe and the world."
On the last Wednesday, the WHO classified the Monkeypox situation as a global health emergency at its highest alert level, due to the spread of a new variant of the virus. The Klade Ib variant has raised worldwide concern as it seems to spread more rapidly via close interaction.
The Commission has acknowledged the World Health Organization's classification of Monkeypox as a global health emergency. It's important for the Commission to collaborate with global health authorities in implementing measures to control the spread of the virus.
