The Mont Blanc tunnel will undergo a 15-week closure commencing on September 2nd, attributed to ongoing construction projects.

The legendary Mont Blanc Tunnel, connecting Switzerland, France, and Italy, is set for a 15-week shutdown commencing next month due to maintenance work. From September 2 to December 16, extensive refurbishments will be carried out on the tunnel's vault, as revealed by the TMB-GEIE operating company on Tuesday. It's worth mentioning that the tunnel was closed for nine weeks last year for preliminary procedures.

This iconic structure, constructed more than half a century ago, measures 11.6 kilometers in length and sees thousands of vehicles pass through daily. The operator revealed that due to its age, it requires "extensive underground repairs." During this construction period, the optimal strategy for future development will be chosen over a 600-meter stretch. If everything runs smoothly, an additional 600 meters will undergo renovations by 2025.

The closure will take effect from September 2 at 5:00 PM and is slated to conclude on December 16 at the same time. Travellers seeking alternative routes can refer to the map provided on the website: www.tunnelmb.net.

Due to the upcoming maintenance, construction work on repairing the tunnel's vault will significantly impact the Mont Blanc Tunnel's operations. During this 15-week shutdown, the team will also explore potential strategies for future enhancements over a 600-meter stretch.
