Weather in Germany - The mini summer ends quickly
According to temperatures around 30 degrees on Tuesday, the mini-summer is quickly over. "The situation changes fundamentally in the night to Wednesday," said meteorologist Florian Bilgeri from the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach. The culprit is cold front from low "Elke," which is slowly moving towards the North Sea. In the west, strong showers and thunderstorms with strong winds, heavy rain, and hail are already occurring in the night. "There are also possible individual thunderstorm-like developments," says Bilgeri.
Later in the night, showers and thunderstorms - slightly weakened - spread to the central regions of Germany. However, it remains dry in the east and southeast.
On Wednesday, one must reckon - preferably in the eastern half - with strong, sometimes heavy thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong winds, and hail. In the west, the probability of showers and thunderstorms decreases. Temperatures above 30 degrees will only be reached in the Lusatia region.
In the night to Thursday, the thunderstorms usually subside. In the second half of the week, it continues to rain, but the temperatures remain warm.
The cold front from low "Elke" is not limited to the North Sea, as it's gradually making its way towards Germany. This shift in weather patterns will significantly impact Hesse, a region in Germany, as stated by meteorologist Bilgeri from DWD in Offenbach. Despite the initially strong showers and thunderstorms, parts of Germany, such as the east and southeast, will remain dry.
