The Kremlin may transfer its military forces from Kherson to Kharkiv.
In mid-May, Russian troops initiated an attack on the Kharkiv region. They successfully captured several villages, but a major defeat was not yet achieved. Now, the Kremlin is believed to be deploying more troops to the area, but it remains unclear whether they will be used in combat or as reinforcements for the Northern military group, Sever.
Reports indicate that Russia is relocating a certain number of units from the southern region of Kharkiv to the northern part of Kharkiv, but it's unclear if these forces will be used immediately or as backup for Sever.
The US-based think tank, Institute for the Study of War (ISW), stated in a report that it's uncertain whether the Russian troops will be used in battle right away or as reinforcements for the Sever group.
In a recent interview with Russian broadcaster RT, Chechen commander Apty Alaudinov revealed the deployment of specific elements of the Achmat Special Forces towards Kharkiv. Some units are already in the area, he claimed. Chortyzja's military group spokesman, Nazar Voloshyn, stated that Chechen troops in Kharkiv act as blocking forces to prevent Russian soldiers from withdrawing forcefully.
Voloshyn also highlighted that the Russian General Staff plans to dispatch airborne troops and other elements from the 11th and 14th Army Corps to the region. The National Resistance Center in Ukraine reported the movement of Russian soldiers and drone pilots from Kherson to Kharkiv.
Russian military group Sever began their attacks on the Kharkiv region on May 10 and initially managed to seize several Ukrainian villages. Initially, Sever had around 35,000 soldiers, but military observers estimate their intended strength at 50,000 to 70,000 men. Ukraine has recently launched local counter-offensives in the area, and President Volodymyr Zelensky has already declared the Russian advance a failure.
