Extremism - The Innensenator welcomes the ban on "Compact" explicitly
Berlin's Senator for the Interior Iris Spranger (SPD) welcomes the ban on the far-right magazine "Compact". "I fully support this", said Spranger on the sidelines of the presentation of the Berlin Constitutional Protection Report 2023. Along with the Federal Interior Ministry, the Senate also shares the opinion that "right-wing extremism currently poses the greatest threat to our democracy". Spranger added: "The ban shows that the state is not standing idly by. The state is capable of action."
The magazine "Compact", which is classified as far-right by the Constitutional Protection, has been banned by Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD). According to her ministry, the police searched rooms and apartments of leading figures, the management, and shareholders.
Iris Spranger, the SPD Senator for Interior in Berlin, commended Nancy Faeser, her party colleague and the Federal Interior Minister, for banning the extremist publication "Compact." Spranger emphasized that this move demonstrates the Senate's shared belief with the Federal Interior Ministry that right-wing extremism is the most significant threat to democracy, and it underscores the state's ability to take action against such threats. Additionally, the Berlin Senate supports the constitutional protection's classification of "Compact" as a far-right publication and agrees with the robust measures taken by the authorities, including searches of key figures' premises.
