- The ICE Cologne-Frankfurt route is now free
An ICE departed from Cologne to Frankfurt at 4:20 AM, resuming traffic on the crucial high-speed line. For nearly four weeks, passengers and commuters had to deal with detours and longer travel times due to construction work. Deutsche Bahn completed the work on schedule. "Train traffic has been running since early morning," a spokesperson said.
From July 16th, around 50 million euros were spent to renew 70 kilometers of track and 13 switches along the route. The train is now running again at Siegburg/Bonn, Montabaur, and Limburg Süd stations.
From Friday, passengers will have to cope with another major construction site: the Berlin-Hamburg route, one of the busiest in the country, will be closed until mid-December, causing significant disruptions in long-distance and regional traffic.
After the completion of the track and switch renovations, rail transport resumed smoothly at Siegburg/Bonn, Montabaur, and Limburg Süd stations. Despite this, passengers will soon face another challenge with the closure of the Berlin-Hamburg route for major construction work, affecting long-distance and regional rail transport.
