The hottest week of the year is approaching
People who have already taken their vacation can now breathe a sigh of relief: Summer is back. The coming week means sunny and increasingly hot weather. Temperatures could even surpass previous records.
Tropical low "Kirsti" brought powerful rain showers and thunderstorms over Germany over the weekend. Now, high "Halil" takes over the weather command and brings us sunny and increasingly hot bathing weather in the first week of the month.
So far, we have been largely spared from extreme heat this year. The 35 degrees in Kitzingen on June 29th is the highest temperature recorded so far. Tuesday and/or Wednesday could potentially surpass this temperature.
As is typical in this summer, thunderstorms with localized heavy rain potential do not keep us waiting for long. In the southwest, they are expected as early as Wednesday afternoon, and they will spread across the country by Thursday. Temperatures will only drop slightly in the second week of the month to about 25 to 30 degrees (21 to 24 degrees at the sea), making the air feel very humid.
This could be the hottest week of the year so far, which fits well with the Dog Days, which last from July 20 to August 20 and are normally the hottest time of the year.
Monday and Tuesday: Sunny and getting hotter
We can expect a lot of sunshine on both days, with sunshine hours between 11 and 14 hours per day. On Monday, temperatures will range from relaxed 21 to 27 degrees, with 27 to 31 degrees in the southwest. Tuesday will then be much hotter, with widespread temperatures of 30 to 35 degrees, with peak temperatures expected in the Rhine region. It will be more pleasant at the coast with temperatures around 25 degrees.
Wednesday: Sunny and hot, increasingly stormy in the southwest
It will be sunny and similarly hot as on Tuesday, with peak temperatures around 35 degrees. However, thicker cloud formations will begin to form in the extreme west and southwest in the afternoon, and thunderstorms will follow, bringing heavy rain, hail, and strong winds in some places.
Thursday: Thunderstorms spread
With a mix of sun and clouds, showers and thunderstorms will spread to the center and south of the country, while the extreme north may remain unaffected. Temperatures will range from 27 to 33 degrees in very humid air, with the coolest temperatures at the North Sea, at 23 degrees.
Friday and weekend: Summer remains, but so does the thunderstorm risk
Temperatures will typically range between 25 and 30 degrees, with 21 to 24 degrees at the sea. The sun and clouds will alternate, with local thunderstorms and heavy rain showers possible, especially in the afternoons. Thunderstorms with strong winds, hail, and heavy rain cannot be ruled out.
During this hot week, international travelers might appreciate the sunny weather, as it aligns with their summer vacation. Despite the heat, it's important to stay updated on weather forecasts, as thunderstorms with heavy rain potential could occur, especially in the southwest.
