The Foreign Office urges Germans in Lebanon to leave

The German federal government urgently calls on all Germans in Lebanon to leave the country due to the threat of escalation in the Middle East. Several airlines have cancelled their connections to Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

The Foreign Office urges Germans in Lebanon to leave. Approximately 1,300 people with German citizenship are on the crisis list of the ministry, according to a spokesperson. They should make use of all opportunities for departure as long as it is still possible. There are still flights to Turkey and Europe, even though Lufthansa has suspended its connections. The spokesperson added that all indications point to the radical-Islamic Hisbollah militia being behind the rocket attack on the Golan Heights.

Previously, the Lufthansa group had suspended flights to Beirut due to security reasons. All flights were cancelled until coming Monday (5 August), the company announced. Affected are the airlines Swiss, as well as Lufthansa and Eurowings. Initially, cancellations were only planned until this Tuesday. Air France also cancelled its flights from Paris to Beirut for Monday and Tuesday due to security reasons, as the airline announced.

After at least twelve people were killed in a rocket attack on the Druze village of Madjal Shams on the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights on Saturday, the Israeli government is preparing for a retaliatory strike. It holds the Hisbollah responsible for the attack. The Shia militia denied involvement.

  1. The Foreign Office's urgent call for Germans in Lebanon to leave comes amidst heightened tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, following a rocket attack on Israel's Golan Heights.
  2. The political instability in Lebanon, fueled by conflicts like the Israel-War, has led to several airlines, including Lufthansa, cancelling their flights to Beirut.
  3. The suspension of flights to Beirut by Lufthansa and other airlines is a response to the escalating political situation in Lebanon, which is closely linked to the politics and conflicts involving Israel and Hezbollah.
